Former tennis stars will get back onto the court during the Powershares Tennis Series, which kicks off this week. The Champions Series consists of tournaments where former ATP legends of compete in a round robin format with a champion crowned on the last day of each event. The event was created in 2009, with PowerShares QQQ sponsoring the event since 2011.
This year’s event includes legendary tennis icons and world-renowned champions: Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Andy Roddick, John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Michael Chang, James Blake, and Mark Philippoussis. They will take the court during the 12-city tour of one-night tournaments. Each tournament features four Champions paired off in one set semi-finals and culminates with the winners meeting in a one-set championship match.
At the event scheduled in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 24th and 7:00 p.m., the first semifinal is between Blake and Philippoussis, and the second pins together Agassi and Courier. The two winners will play a one set final directly after the second semifinal.
The Champions Tennis Series will be held on the Jon M. Hunstman Center, the home of the Utah Utes, who are currently playing in the Sweet 16 in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Tickets are starting at $35 and you can sit in the front two rows starting for $250.
